Knocked Up

Where do I begin? First of all, it is a bit disturbing that my daughter loved this movie so much that she purchased it. That being said, I thought it was a funny movie, that the story provided good contrasts and satire, and that everyone did a good job acting (especially Katherine Heigl). I especially enjoyed the woman who sat to Heigel's left during the business discussions. I loved that she was offended that Heigl "lied to us" and that "we tell the truth in Los Angeles." Also, a great song by Bright Eyes is in the film: "We Are Nowhere and It's Now." I give it a 4. Joe

Far from Heaven

Thanks, Harold, for recommending this. It was awesome. The story about a wife who is behind "the successful man" and the man who has issues deeper than that. Great art! GREAT art! Great cinematography. Great acting by Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid. A 5. Joe.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors. This is one of my favorite stories. I watched a cartoon based on this story several years ago. It was really good. This film had great effects and very good acting. To me though it was kind of "Disneyish," is the best way I can describe it. Definitely worth the watch but not as good as I was hoping. I think they tried to make it the next Lord of the Rings, which it was not. A 4. Joe

Boys Don't Cry

I had never seen this 1999 movie starring Hillary Swank. It was based on the true story of Teena Brandon, aka Brandon Teena, a transgendered teen. I combed the internet to see how true the story really is, and there are mixed views. Regardless, it is a very powerful film. Hillary Swank deserved the Oscar that she won for this. Definitely pay attention to the R rating if young ones are nearby. A 5.

21 Grams

Alejandro González Iñárritu, who produced Amores Perros (one of my favorite international films ever) and Babel (a tremendous movie), directed this one. The acting is outstanding. The story isn't as good as Babel and Amores Perros, but pretty good. If you like bleak and sad movies, this is the one for you...I give it a 4.
